Two years ago today, the world watched as we stood together and fought back during the Montgomery Brawl on August 5, 2023. This moment mattered because the powers that be could not suppress or conceal this narrative of our story like they have time and time again.
I cringe when I hear people say, "I am not my ancestors," because I know the stories of when they fought back. A person who would say such a thing obviously doesn't know our true history. This society has done such a masterful job at concealing these stories, especially in their school systems, for fear that we would even imagine or dare to defend ourselves or stand up to injustice. They strategically choose to highlight only the stories from our past where we appear docile and "turning the other cheek" because this is where they want us to remain psychologically.
The Montgomery brawl mattered because it wasn't that narrative. It represented Black solidarity - our community standing up to a society that has constantly mistreated us, and technology would not allow them to hide it or lie about it this time.
As I witnessed this momentous occasion, my soul was delighted from beginning to end. I'm smiling now just thinking about it. I had witnessed Black History being made in real time, and once I realized this, I knew I had to act.
As a black owned apparel company, SoulSeed Apparel exists to commemorate moments like these. Our mission has always been to promote Black Excellence by any means necessary, so I immediately designed our commemorative "Lest We Forget" t-shirt to honor this moment of collective strength.
This black owned apparel piece serves as more than clothing - it's a reminder that we have always fought back, we have always stood together, and we will never forget the moments when our true power shines through.
