I was a young girl when I first saw the "Wilma Rudolph" story, I realize it was my first encounter with great potential wrapped in a black body. She was born crippled with polio and doctors said she would never walk. Her mother assured her she would. So, at 9 years old she taught herself to walk. Not only did she walk, she was would become the fastest woman in the world during the 1960 Olympics (Rome) becoming the first American woman in history to bring home 3 gold medals in a single Olympic game.
