Community activist powerhouse who was beaten for getting her people to the voting polls, with fire in her spirit she kept on until she made it to the floor of the Democratic National Convention. Her voice was so strong and powerful that the president at the time (Lyndon) purposely aired during the same time trying to drown out her voice. Mrs. Hamer was also given a hysterectomy unbeknownst to her by a doctor who was only to remove a uterine tumor. She ran for Congress, although she did not win she continued to be a pillar in her community by establishing the Freedom Farm of 1969 where the community grew enough food to combat hunger. She also created a co-op for the community to raise pigs then to return their offspring to the co-op to be recycled back into the community for food. She was often seen peeling fruits and vegetables for canning to give to those in need that she would share out of her own earnings. She is the reason why Stacy Abrams had the courage to do what she did. This is what superheroes look like. We remember you and we honor you mother Hamer.
